St Patrick's 175On the weekend of 30th April/2nd May, 2010 St. Patrick's Church, Crossmaglen celebrated its 175th Anniversary. On the Friday evening there was a special concelebrated Mass of Thanksgiving with the main celebrant Cardinal Sean Brady. Assisting him were Parish Priest Fr. Joe McKeever, along with curates Fr. Liam McKinney and Fr. Barney King. Other priests concelebrating were Monsignor Raymond Murray, Fr.Kevin Cullen and Fr. Patrick McGuckin from Lower Creggan and Fr. Martin McArdle(grandson of this firms' founder Michael) who is PP in Moneymore. After Communion the Cardinal presented 2 Benemerenti medals and 9 St. Patrick's Medals to parishoners. Everyone was then invited to the Rangers Hall for refreshments. The Cardinal circulated the Hall and spoke to all there before leaving to visit the family of Natasha McShane from Silverbridge who is in hospital in Chicago- the result of a horrendous attack on her and a friend as they walked home there. On Saturday the Vigil Mass was celebrated by Fr. Michael Murtagh (a native of Crossmaglen) followed by Benediction led by Parish Priest Fr. McKeever. On Sunday a "friendly" game of football between Crossmaglen Rangers and the rest of the parish (represented by Naomh Malachi and Cullaville) was held in St. Oliver Plunkett Park in the afternoon. On Sunday evening the annual Blessing of the Graves took place with the usual large attendance to close the weekend of commemoration.
